Acne is perhaps the most common chronic skin disease which almost most of the people suffer from. It is the inflammatory condition of the sebaceous (fat) glands and hair follicles usually found on face, neck, chest and shoulders.
Causes of Acne
- Erroneous food habits
This includes irregular time of eating, improper and imbalanced diet patterns, excess of starch, sugar and fatty acids.
- Constipation
This is another main reason for the acne formation. When the stomach is not properly cleansed, the waste matter remains in the body which slowly gets intoxicated into the human body.

- Improper life style
This is yet another main reason. This includes all factors like excessive intake of imbalanced foods, tea, coffee, alcohol, tobacco etc. The most important part of this is the sedentary life style.
All this together may lead to indigestion and general debility.
Can Acne be prevented?
The formation of acne can be prevented by following a healthy life style. Regular exercises, appropriate drinking of water, eating a good balanced diet is very important to have an acne free skin.
Skin should be kept clean as accumulation of dirt will also lead to the formation of acne. To serve this purpose face should be regularly washed with fresh and clean water. Repeated use of chemicals should be avoided.
If face wash and cleansers are used it is better to use alcohol and oil free products.
Many people have the habit of having contact with the face often. As there is more dirt in the hands this should be avoided. Weekly once at least skin should be exfoliated using a good scrubber. Skin products if used should not be changed often.
How to treat acne naturally?
- Eat a lot of fresh fruits daily to keep the body pH alkaline.
- More amounts of vitamin A foods can be taken which is very good to maintain a healthy skin.
- Cucumber paste can be applied to the face and washed with normal cold water after 20 minutes.
- Avoid excess use of soaps or other chemical products on face.
- Hot fomentation can be applied on the acne sores.
- Wash the affected area with diluted lemon water.
- Oatmeal cooked in milk can be used as a pack for quicker healing.
Drink plenty of water which helps in the hydration of the skin and keeping it supple. This also helps to maintain the skin tone
