Unknown facts of knowing blood group

Do you remember when the last time was, you have undergone for a blood group test (blood test). Although, most of us would have gone for a blood test, sometimes in past, this might be mostly when one has seen ill-health.

Majority of us, hardly remembers their own self-blood group and very few of their family members. We don’t have any constitutional law or act saying,”it’s must to know ones blood group and also the near and dear ones”. It’s all depends on us to identify and understand the benefits of knowing blood group(s). Here are my personal views:

(A)If you remember your blood group by seeing medical records which are of year(s) older. Please, have a blood group test done. We don’t require any doctor prescriptions to have blood test done. Most diagnostic centers does blood test and urine test as “combo” pack. Cool, do have a test of both. It’s always beneficial.

(B) Now, once you are done, you have to shoulder responsibility to knew about your family member’s blood group too. If you don’t have any blood test reports of them, please repeat Point A.

(C) If you care your loved ones or cared by your dear ones(may be neighbors, best friends, distant relatives, society people, any professional club members you have joined with etc.,), do suggest them to have a blood test done to knew their blood group. If anyone says, I am aware of my blood group. The next question from you should be, WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU HAD A TEST DONE, then repeat point A.

There is nothing wrong in having blood test done. If anyone has a doubt on medical charges, I bet here, there are very minimal, you had ever thought of. Do visit exclusive diagnostic centers nearby, they are meant for these kind of tests only.

(D) We would have heard ,noticed or seen people talking about the requirement of particular  blood group for a person(unknown person to you) who will be undergoing a surgery some hours(days) later.
Say, you have that particular blood group they are talking about. Although you have determined to give your blood to help a person, it may be your own priorities which makes you to take back-step at that moment or makes you to ignore the situation.

There is nothing wrong in doing so, as its purely individual discretion.

If any of us had faced above situation(s), these lines are for you. “By knowing blood group of self and our loved (dear) ones we can avoid any such situations to them.”

HOW CAN WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

By this time, most of us would try to remember me about the available blood banks in hospitals, non-profit health organizations and third-party blood banks.

I have seen many instances, where the hospital blood bank departments say, “We have limited blood for patient required blood”, please try to arrange from your family members or from other sources”. Don’t you get panic when you hear this.(I wish none of us will never listen this too, in mere future). We call to all the family members and other sources, hoping to find one.

WE SEE MANY SMS COMING IN, TWEETS FLOATING, here are there. Finally , the situation is under control and the patient is safe. This ends the panic rush here. But the lesson what we learnt and can be taught remains evergreen.

By knowing blood group, of your own created community, it will be handy in such situations. This makes you to be aware and create awareness among the people you see regularly.

TIPS  YOU CAN USE:

(1) If you have business card, on your business purposes its must to exchange cards. If you can add your blood group next to name, that makes a huge difference in helping known people and sometimes unknown too.

(2) Create a separate group for each of your contacts, filter them by their blood groups.  For this you can take support of apps.

If you feel something worthy to be added here, please post a comment.

Family Physician- How to choose one for better health

The famous saying, “Health is Wealth” will never need an explanation. Unfortunately most of us will realize the importance of health when we fall ill, rather it should be otherwise i,e following footsteps of prevention is better than cure.

Mostly major diseases are prevented when found in early stages. For e,g Cancer, when diagnosed at early stages, one can be cured completely.

This article gives you a clear insight about family physician, a.k.a family doctor, who is determined to serve us and can cure from major ailments when approached in time.

Helping Hand:

Whether you are a part of joint or nuclear family. Having family physician is must.
When we(any of family members) fall ill we rush to hospitals or clinics which are near our residence or offices. Once we are healthy, we rarely think of doctors, hospitals or clinics. Keeping a check on these things may not be helpful in our professional career, they are certainly will be a helping hand for our family.Sometimes, visiting corporate hospitals will prove costly even for a small treatment kind or diagnosis. Its not a fault with you or with hospitals. It’s the corporate hospitals DNA which makes you to spend good amount of money for any treatment, whether its a minor or major one.

Choose one family physician, with good academic and work credentials, and make sure you and your family visit firstly, for any health issues.

Keeping informed him about your family health history, is must. This will help him to provide better treatment and can alarm you from major health issues which can be faced in mere future.

Money Less(wisely) Spent : The consultation charges of family physician are lesser, when compared with corporate hospitals. It is advisable to choose your family physician for any day care treatments.
Its fact, that your health insurance comes into action only when the insurer is hospitalized for minimum of 24 hours. Health insurance should be used for critical diseases diagnosis only, for rest visit family physician clinics. These are also called retail health clinics.

Pre and Post medical care:
Say for e.g if a family member has undergone operational treatment from a hospital, after being referred by your family physician. The post-operational treatment will be carried out from residence itself. This is the time where family physician will be more helpful. He guides, motivates and suggests to improve faster from ill-health. He acts as a Psychological support besides your family members support for a patient.

Say for eg. A person has met with an accident and he has undergone with major and critical surgery. Just experience how much trauma he and his family members would have gone through. Thanks to doctors effort, the patient is out of danger and he will be all set to lead normal life say, after four to six months of bed rest. Once patient resides at home, this creates a tough time for family members to carry out post medical treatment. Right, from keeping patient body fresh to feeding him proper food and giving him medicines on time. At this point , having family physician can help you to come out of this tough time. He can appoint a family nurse who can take care of keeping patient body fresh, and feeding food on time. Family doctor can also appoint family phsiotherapits, who can help patient to carry out his trainings suchas, walking with out support of chair or stick, as suggested by consultant doctor(s).

Health Records:

Keeping a list of family physicians prescriptions is must for every one. These prescriptions will be helpful in framing your own family health history. As like, corporate hospitals ,family physicians often will keep any computer based records. Its our responsibility to take care of these. Make sure, for every visit to your family physician you will carry prescription file/record. Although one may not face same health issues, all time. Keeping a record history will keep you check, on your health as whole. This will help you in framing a better healthy life.

Self Treatment Vs. Family Physician Treatment:

Say a big “NO” for any self treatment, may be its smaller one and can be cured with your knowledge. Fewer times, a look like smaller diseases, when not cured with proper diagnosis will turn to be costly in future when this should be fixed with high end technology equipments.

A Tip to carry your own treatment analysis is,  Keep a record of medical prescriptions written by your family physician. On top or backside of prescription do write for what disease the medicines are given for and also re-write the medicines name (as, doctors handwritten prescriptions are tougher to read and understand). With this activity you and your family members are kept well-informed about the diseases and its treatment.
Make sure you keep a word with your family physician in re-ordering the suggested medicines through earlier prescriptions.

Wishing every one, to have one good family physician and a healthy, wealthy life.

Take Poo to the Loo- Video Song by UNICEF India

UNICEF’s campaign Take Poo to the Loo has brought out the fight against open defecation – onto the streets and online; to industry, government bodies, academia and citizen groups, by roping in the strongest voices in the nation – the Youth. And this youth army now has a rousing mantra – India’s First Poo Song titled “Poo Party”.

CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE VIDEO :-)

Composed by famous Indo-Jazz music composer, songwriter and producer Shrikanth Sriram (a Dewarist’s  artist who holds stunning compositions like the theme for the movie Life of Pi to his credit ), the song captures the brazenness and audacity of the Poo Man that irks and annoys his listeners. One feels a strong urge to put him in his rightful place by flushing him down the toilet.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the music, Shri says “Ah Shit! The smell that brings me home very quickly with a thud! I would rather have the smell of Pav Baji bring me home. Anyone trying to do anything about public defecation needs to be supported fully. And the best I can do is to write some music to help.”

Composed  to shake-up and make one take action, the funky and animated song uses  ‘toilet sounds’ to show that if left to grow at its current pace, the disgusting reality of open defecation might multiply to a level where it starts invading your personal space. It might become a truth you wake up to every morning - bombarding your life during the day, and becoming a constant nightmare.

“With this first poo song in the history of India, we have pushed the boundaries. Never before has open defecation been so visible through new media. This song demonstrates that you can talk about a very serious issue and challenge a deep rooted social norm in an accessible, fun way, and using everyday words common to young people,” states Caroline den Dulk, Chief Advocacy and Communication, UNICEF India.
