Acne Foods to Avoid

Acne Foods to Avoid - HealthCampIndia Blog

Acne can be a serious problem for many people, and a surprising number of people of all ages find themselves plagued with acne.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re 15 or 50, acne can still be a problem for you if you don’t take care of yourself. If you’re trying to stop acne from being a problem, you may find that cutting out a few foods will be the way to go.

These acne foods can be the main source of all the problems, so leaving them out of your diet will be a good way to ensure that you’re putting nothing in your body that can cause the acne problem – or cause it to worsen!

Dairy

Many people that suffer from acne find that cutting out dairy is one of the best ways to get their acne under control. This is because dairy is rich in fat, and fat can cause all kinds of problems – not the least of which is acne.

With so many hormones being injected into the bodies of the dairy animals and the additives being stirred into the dairy products themselves, the chance that some of these chemicals will affect your body negatively is great.

Finally, with all the sugar that is naturally inherent in dairy products – this sugar is also known as lactose – you will find that it’s likely to cause breakouts.

The key to cutting back on dairy is finding an alternative source to get all of your calcium. If you are cutting dairy out, you need to replace it with foods like broccoli, kale, spinach, and pretty much any other leafy green.

You will find that calcium is one of the most important nutrients in your diet, so it’s always a good idea to replace the foods that you are cutting out with other good sources of the same nutrient.

Sugar

Sugar is one of the many things that you should already try to avoid if you want to be healthy, but it’s even more important to avoid it if you want to get rid of acne problems.

Sugar will cause a spike in insulin, which causes more skin oil – sebum – to be released by your skin. When this happens, the increase in skin oil leads to your pores getting clogged much more easily, as too much skin oil mixes with all the dead skin cells and causes the infections. Cutting back on sugar is the way to go!

The best thing about cutting back on sugar is that it will also help to promote a healthy body, weight loss, consistent energy levels, better sleep, and more! Cutting sugar out your diet is the key to not only getting rid of acne problems, though it will certainly be one of the best foods to take off your diet.

You can use sugar alternatives like Stevia if you still want to make your coffee a bit sweeter, but it’s best to cut out all refined sugars as much as possible in order to reduce acne problems.

Refined and Processed Foods

A lot of the food that you eat is processed, and yet you don’t even realize it. Those sausages that you’re chowing down on have been through the meat grinder and processor, as have those cup noodles, the hamburgers, and the pizza pockets.

Almost all of the white flour, white rice, and white bread products have been refined, and white sugar definitely goes through the refinery.

These processed and refined foods are usually much higher on the glycemic index, which increases the levels of the acne-producing hormones and causes a spike in your insulin.

It’s best to avoid food that is unnatural like this, as most of the nutrients have been processed right out anyways.

You will find that they will be a lot less healthy than their natural alternatives, and they will usually be loaded down with chemicals and preservatives.

A good rule of thumb in this case is that you shouldn’t eat anything that you can’t prepare yourself, and you should always work with the raw ingredients in their simplest form when cooking.

Fried and Oily Food

Oil is going to be one of your worst enemies when it comes to the battle against acne, even though many people believe that there is no correlation between oil and pimples.

The truth is that putting more oil in your body leads to a higher fat content, and it can cause a raise in your insulin levels – which leads to acne problems.

If you’re going to diet and be healthy, cutting out fried and oily foods is always the way to go. It becomes an even better idea when you’re dealing with acne, as you will find that decreasing the amount of fried food that you eat will be the key to getting rid of the acne problem.

You will need to avoid eating all those chips, French fries, chicken fried steak, fried chicken, and all those other delicious fried  foods that taste great, but that will cause acne and other problems in your body.

Caffeine

An interesting thing to note is that caffeine is actually responsible for your outbreak of acne. This is because it causes your body to produce more of the stress hormone cortisol, which throws off your body’s internal hormonal balance.

This delicate balance will keep you healthy if it’s maintained, but the overstimulation of your body by caffeine can cause all kinds of problems by throwing off the hormones. Seeing as acne is basically a hormonal problem, you can see why caffeine must be taken off the menu.

If you still want to get energy, you may need to look in other ways of getting it. There are herbal teas that you can take for a natural energy boost, or there are coffee and tea alternatives that will do the same job.

You may find that they aren’t as tasty as coffee or a good energy drink, but they’re much less likely to cause problems with your acne.
